For years, we tend to look up to superheroes as our inspirations. And from the comic book pages we find that with hard work and dedication, the impossible becomes an easy task.
In recent years, female superheroes are becoming popular in the male-dominant genre.
Captain Marvel is the latest superhero from Marvel that literally showcases girl power. It empowers not just women and young girls, but everybody that feels belittle and weak.
For Carla Michelle Espinosa, her Captain Marvel and like most of us is her mother. But even the toughest mom can be weak sometimes. Just like Superman to kryptonite, Carla's mom is going through a tough challenge: Mrs. Emy Espinosa was diagnosed with Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). It is a rare blood disorder wherein white blood cells are overactive and are affecting multiple organs such as the liver, spleen, kidneys, and lungs. She’s been in the ICU since December 1, 2018, and as of posting, she’s had her 4th-week dosage of chemotherapy (total of 8 weeks needed). Weekly blood transfusions (more or less 50 bags transfused since October 29, 2018), as well as approximately 19 times of 5-hour dialysis (every other day since December 1, 2018), are also done.
With 3 months of being confined, their hospital bill has already piled up to a total of P5M (excluding doctors’ fees and miscellaneous fees). Her daily expenses range from P75k to P100k per day for all the tests, machines, medicines, and supplies used. The hard-earned money that Carla's parents have been saving for their retirement have already been withdrawn from their bank accounts to support her medical expenses. Their battle is not yet over as she’s still in the hospital and will have to be on close monitoring, follow-up checkups and laboratory tests and continuous treatment even after she is discharged.
Carla describes her mom as, "a wonderful person, most genuine and loving person I know." She added, "let’s help fulfill her dream to live a long life, see the world and play with her future grandchildren."
In line with this, Carla decided to have a block screening for the movie Captain Marvel for the benefit of her mom, Mrs. Espinosa to aid them of their financial needs.
The special block screening will be on March 09, 2019, 7 PM at Cinema 2, Uptown Mall, BGC, Taguig City. Tickets are at P700 each with free popcorn.
