Artist Highlight: PEEJAY CATACUTAN

There's more than the exhibits, cosplays and panel discussions at this year's AsiaPop Comicon Manila 2017. Amazing local artists will also grace the 3-day event.

One of which will be Manila-based illustrator, comic book creator, and the Art Director for OSSM Comics (an independent comic book company based in California, USA.), Peejay Catacutan.

His first series, which was written by Omar Spahi of OSSM Comics, called XenoGlyphs was published in 2011 and since then, he has worked on several titles under the publishing company.

He is also an entertainment artist for Upper Deck creating card illustrations for their Marvel line of trading cards.

In 2016, under Chopsoy Comics, he published his first local comic book in the Philippines entitled Buster. The series sparked the interest of the local community as well as comic and cartoon veterans there and abroad. The book was shared with comic book creators at last year’s New York Comic Convention and it has been receiving really good reviews. Jess Española, the Emmy Award-winning animator and assistant director of The Simpsons even gave it the following review: “IMPRESSIVE.”

When not drawing his comics, like a lot of people in the industry, he finds relaxation in drawing other things. He is currently working on the next volume of Buster and a possible animated series based on one of OSSM comic’s titles, Separators.

Catch Peejay and his wonderful art at BOOTH CC51 from August 25-27 at the SMX Convention Center.
